MsMarmitelover is a blogger and chef.

Her food blog The English can Cook (marmitelover.blogspot.com) is one of the top food blogs in the UK, recently voted top 5 food blogs (second after the retired world foodie guide) by Quadrille publishers on Twitter.

She is the pioneer of the supperclub home restaurant movement in the UK with The Underground Restaurant. She is currently writing a book about The Underground Restaurant for a major publisher. She has written articles on food for The Guardian, The London Word, and foodtv.co.uk. She has appeared on BBC breakfast news, News 24 and Market Kitchen. She has almost 4,000 followers on Twitter.

Her training was in photography and filmmaking. She has taken pictures for all the major publications and had exhibitions of her travel photography in London and France. MsMarmitelover has a strong visual image both in the decoration of her home and restaurant, which is very francophile, vintage and shabby chic and her appearance, customised fascinators in her hair, vintage aprons, feminine dresses, and bright lipstick. She cooks in heels!

She is also a mother of a teenage girl and speaks both French and Spanish. MsMarmitelover has two other blogs:
- travelswithmyteenager.blogspot.com which is about bringing up a teenager in London, astrology, travel, politics, cinema and music.
-theenglishcaneat.blogspot.com another food blog which concentrates on product reviews, restaurant reviews and her foodie based travels.

Sleep is for the Weak is written by Josie, a twenty-something, slightly neurotic, seriously sleep deprived stay-at-home mum from Staffordshire in the UK.

Her days are mostly filled with doing her very best not to be too bad a mother to her rather demanding and spirited young son while stealing all available free time to write, think, grow and try to stay sane. Trying to juggle a blossoming writing career with a toddler that manages to tick all the ‘better keep an eye on this one’ boxes on her Health Visitor’s check lists isn’t always easy. Her portrayal of motherhood is often raw and painfully honest, but she survives with the help of a great deal of chocolate, a good splash of humour and by refusing to take anything too seriously.

When not hiding under her duvet and being hopelessly self-deprecating, Josie takes a lot of photographs, writes poetry, and runs a popular weekly writing workshop for bloggers.

She’d love if it if you stopped by, or sent her some cake. Either one…

The site features reviews of recent shows, previews of upcoming programmes and TV related news – and all this in addition to a fine and a well-regarded podcast featuring, in the words of the Guardian, ‘rude men shouting about the brilliance of Traffic Cops’.

We think that was a recommendation.

Set up three years ago with a healthy backlog of content, we post frequently and prolifically, always engaging with the mood of the TV nation and talking straight about whatever’s been on the box.

Hot Cross Mum offers an honest, frank and humorous insight into the domestic rollercoaster of life as a Stay At Home Mum to two young boys. Recently listed in the Independent Top 50 Parenting Websites and Blogs and ranked in the UKs Top 100 Parenting Blogs Index, Hot Cross Mum’s warm and witty insights are clearly striking a chord with parents and bloggers alike. She says of herself, “My days are now less about deadlines and boardrooms and more about washing lines and bathrooms. As an antidote to washing floors, worrying about what to cook for tea and the pain of stepping on small cars in bare feet, I write about my life as a mother and other mother’s lives. It’s very therapeutic!”

I have spent over 20 years in the beauty industry – as beauty director on Company magazine, beauty editor at British Cosmopolitan, a freelancer for Marie-Claire and Men’s Health, and long before that had a Saturday job in a chemist with a Rimmel counter – all of which means I might just have clocked up enough hours experimenting with, writing about, testing out and generally immersing myself in all things beauty to be considered a bit of an expert. So I’m going to share some of the beauty secrets I’ve picked up along the way with you, introduce you to industry insiders and let you in on the latest launches.

It’s the year of the indie mag and The Other Side is leading the charge. Produced by a team of exceptional writers, illustrators and designers we have our finger firmly on the pulse of what London needs.

It’s the year of the indie mag and The Other Side is leading the charge. Produced by a team of exceptional writers, illustrators and designers we have our finger firmly on the pulse of what London needs. It’s time for change and The Other Side is exactly that.

The Magazine
This is about a community of people who want the best offbeat insight into London and want to see that reflected in what they read. People accept nothing less. We’re special. We’re unique. Our mission is to bring the best to the people. Originally printed on a photocopier in Muswell Hill, The Other Side has blossomed from an eight page black and white magazine into a full colour magazine. Created, run and put together bi-monthly by a group of Londoners working within the publishing and Web 2.0 industry, The Other Side Magazine is ready to take on the big guns.
The Other Side is made up of young Londoners frustrated with what we are handed on a daily basis. The Lite, Metro and Paper are offering nothing of any value to commuters…and don’t get us started on the new ES. We turn the norm on its head and offer up witty, insightful comment on our city. Be it music, film, art, fashion, politics or food. If its on the mind of Londoners then we’ll cover it. We’ve got an award winning travel writer, a film star, RA graduates and the backing of social networking platform Webjam.com.

Online
We don’tt believe that print is dead. Not yet anyway. Who doesn’t love sitting down and reading a tasty magazine? However we are accounting for the direction in which print is going and have created a website to match those thoughts.
The site is run on a social network platform, taking your average website and adding endless possibility to it.
Our blogs, forums and bulletins are monitored through activity feeds throughout the site for easy navigation. We have an abundance of writers who contribute on a regular basis.
There is also a thriving community of members contributing to the content.
Channels
What sets us apart from other sites is the potential for readers to create their own ‘Other Side’ network. A place where they can start writing blogs, adding photos or just communicating with other readers. Anything written on their Other Side network appears on a feed on our homepage.
We are currently setting up pages for shops, bars and festivals that they can use to promote themselves. By keeping a blog and running a forum it can set a store apart from one with a standard website. It’s key to interact with their customers and we know that we can help.

My ongoing sleuthing takes me through the best and worst, with many a pitstop in between. If there’s nonsense being spouted by a big-named brand or a tiny, unknown name that’s making skincare miracles happen, I’ll be sure to share it with you.

This blog is also about sharing stories, revealing the pyschology behind the products we’re drawn to and, of course, opening a wee window on the life of a very typical (if slightly outspoken) beauty editor.

If there’s anything you’d like me to cover, review, explore or correct – or if you just feel like sharing your make-up miracles AND misadventures with me – get in touch.

I’m a thirty-something British woman who loves spending money on lotions and potions, but likes to find out what’s best before I part with my cash. So, my blog is a bit of chat and a bit of testing. Probably more chat than testing, but you’d get bored otherwise.

And even if I do get sent the occasional freebie, I’m always completely impartial. Otherwise, what’s the point? A few people have asked me how I have the cash to buy new products every week. (OK, one person asked me. OK, it was my mum). I shall answer the question with another question: have you SEEN my clothes? More seriously, I beg, blag, borrow and buy. And when the latter option is necessary, I console myself with the fact that Product Placement The Blog is an extremely worthy cause. Much like sponsoring a chimp.

Anyway, have a look, enjoy, go and spend some money and just feel more lovely. It’s that superficial.

Hardens Restaurant Guides are the longest- established pocket guide to London restaurants.

Hardens Restaurant Guides are the longest- established pocket guide to London restaurants. Run by brothers Richard and Peter Harden, their mission is remarkably simple: to tell it how it is.

Harden’s Guides, run by brothers Richard and Peter Harden, is a publishing firm based just off the Strand in London.

Fifteen years ago, Richard and Peter launched their first and best-selling guide, Harden’s London Restaurants – now the longest-established pocket guide to London restaurants. In 1998 a companion volume was launched: Harden’s UK Restaurants. The opinions expressed in both guides are based on what is now the largest annual survey of restaurant-goers in the UK (over 8,000 people took part for the 2006 edition, contributing over 90,000 reports).

In addition the brothers have visited practically every restaurant listed in the London guide, and many of those listed in the UK volume. Their personal visits are always conducted anonymously, and at the firm’s expense.

Meet Richard & Peter

Richard (48) graduated from Christ’s College Cambridge with a degree in Economics and Law. An interest in food manifested itself in membership of the Cheese Appreciation Society and being Dinner Secretary of the college boat club. On leaving university, he qualified as a Barrister, before embarking on a career in the City, working initially at Baring Brothers and then at Samuel Montagu (now part of HSBC). In 1991, he founded Harden’s Guides with his brother Peter.

Peter (41) graduated with a degree in Natural Sciences and Law from Trinity College Cambridge. “Hoover” Harden’s legendary appetite was fuelled by rowing for the Goldie (the university second crew) and his position as food and drink secretary for his college ball. He too first went into finance, working as a junk bond analyst for the Saudi International Bank in New York, before returning to London to launch Harden’s Guides.

How the business began

The idea for Harden’s Guides came at the beginning of the 1990s, when Peter was working in New York and Richard in Dusseldorf. Both cities had handy, opinionated, pocket restaurant guides of a type which simply didn’t exist in London. The time seemed right to launch such a guide. The restaurant scene was just beginning to stir and, with great difficulty, a hundred people were persuaded to take part in the first London-wide survey. For nine months before publication of the first edition of Harden’s London Restaurants, Richard and Peter ate their way around the capital: between them the brothers consumed 600 meals out in a six-month period.

Fifteen years later, and the number of participants has increased eighty-fold. Yes, that’s 80 times more than Harden’s first guide with over 8,000 people casting their votes for the latest editions!
