We take simple equipment and ingredients that can be found in the home and use them to demonstrate that science is everywhere. The activities are easy to replicate and are a great way to engage children and parents into the world of science.

This blog was ‘born’ back in 2009, as a way of combining my life as a wife and mummy with my working life as a beauty writer for various magazines and websites.

As a by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of mama, I am passionate about encouraging, uplifting and inspiring mothers – at every age and stage, and in all the amazing forms motherhood takes – to feel their happy, healthiest best! (And chocolate, cakes and carbs are DEFINITELY allowed. In fact, they’re required).

It’s all in the mix here – from express beauty tips to fashion finds, foolproof recipes (if I can pull them off, I promise you, they are) to fresh ideas for family fun – and I’d love it if you’d share yours, too!

It’s a little bit random, and definitely unpredictable. Can you relate?!

I made hundreds of attempts to find another job as a manager but failed, so my wife gave up being a full-time mum and went out to work.

I’m a Mum of 2, Arthur aged 4yrs and Daisy is 18mths. I have recently changed jobs and so am spending more time at home, which means more time for the things I enjoy. I really love arts and crafts, especially textiles and printing. I make my own cards and other bits alongside being a Phoenix Independent Trader selling their range of cards and stationery designs.

I also love cooking, mostly of the cake variety for my sweet tooth with an excuse that it’s for the kids. This blog is where I write about things I make, find, cook and take a fancy to and want to share. I can also guarantee there will also be a fair share of writing going on about my gorgeous kids and what we get up to and the fun photos that go with it. Thanks for reading!

A place for mum’s to dip in and out of features focusing on travel, interiors, food, celeb and non celeb mum interviews …. we don’t touch on parenting issues (unless they are gorgeous – so no advice here I’m afraid – just shameless indulgence about all other areas of our lives!). Edited by interiors stylist and journalist Jess Contomichalos (who is a mum to four children ages 3 – 23…eek!)

Red Ted Art aims to bring art to children’s hearts. I seek to fill the gap between mass-produced prints and the often unaffordable art market – creating collectables that are reasonably priced. Red Ted Art creates unique and very special hand made “pop art” paintings – in bright, vibrant colours that shine and shimmer. These will not only liven up any children’s bedroom, but also stimulate young babies’ eyesight and older children’s imagination.

Jessica once dreamt of living in sunny Africa to escape a soggy love life. Then one day a kind man bought her back home to lovely Cornwall to roost. With cat, dog and three kids, she feels reluctantly middle-aged and what her single life was like before she can’t remember.

For part of her life she arranges the entire product testing for the Mother & Baby Awards. An oddly surreal experience since her older, ‘on-the-teen-threshold’ offspring have flipped the switch and she no longer feels completely wired into the ’mummy-zone’.

She also writes about life in Cornwall Today – a region with renowned good looks and delicious food – it’s been her longest and happiest relationship.

Blogging has become a means to articulate a mid-life in muddle.
She runs her Life Coaching for Mums business and tries hard to empty the laundry basket regularly. On a good day all of this works in perfect harmony, on a bad day chaos settles in and she watches her hair turn grey much quicker than it should!

Sleep is for the Weak is written by Josie, a twenty-something, slightly neurotic, seriously sleep deprived stay-at-home mum from Staffordshire in the UK.

Her days are mostly filled with doing her very best not to be too bad a mother to her rather demanding and spirited young son while stealing all available free time to write, think, grow and try to stay sane. Trying to juggle a blossoming writing career with a toddler that manages to tick all the ‘better keep an eye on this one’ boxes on her Health Visitor’s check lists isn’t always easy. Her portrayal of motherhood is often raw and painfully honest, but she survives with the help of a great deal of chocolate, a good splash of humour and by refusing to take anything too seriously.

When not hiding under her duvet and being hopelessly self-deprecating, Josie takes a lot of photographs, writes poetry, and runs a popular weekly writing workshop for bloggers.

She’d love if it if you stopped by, or sent her some cake. Either one…

At the respective ages of 49 and 40, my husband (the frog) and I, two sane adults who had never before given a single thought to becoming parents, decided we ‘may as well give it a go’. This meant getting pregnant which it turns out is like living in another body, in another country on, effectively, another planet… who knew. Nine months later our little potato came bobbing up into our living room and two of the most reluctant parents ever to agree to give birth were suddenly completely and utterly subjugate to his every whim. He is now 3. Blogging about it is, I suspect, cheaper than counselling.

Hot Cross Mum offers an honest, frank and humorous insight into the domestic rollercoaster of life as a Stay At Home Mum to two young boys. Recently listed in the Independent Top 50 Parenting Websites and Blogs and ranked in the UKs Top 100 Parenting Blogs Index, Hot Cross Mum’s warm and witty insights are clearly striking a chord with parents and bloggers alike. She says of herself, “My days are now less about deadlines and boardrooms and more about washing lines and bathrooms. As an antidote to washing floors, worrying about what to cook for tea and the pain of stepping on small cars in bare feet, I write about my life as a mother and other mother’s lives. It’s very therapeutic!”
