There’s a lot going on in the world of arts and culture. Must-see exhibitions, the latest band’s intimate gig; clever poetry slams, exilerating dance - must-see exhibitions with a band, a poet and dancing. We’re spoilt for choice.

So how do we navigate our way around this smorgasbord of culture? How to decide where to go, who to read about, which opinion stands out, the event that we’ll be talking about for months. We almost need a cultural compass. Hang on….

This was our lightbulb moment, and we liked it so much that we’ve been developing Culture Compass. As well as being our up-dated and refreshed online arts and culture magazine ( formerly Open Magazine ) it’s a new application for internet and mobile devices allowing users to fully engage and inter-act with the cultural landscape. And, here’s the good bit, to help create it. For more information on our new app and how to get involved, click here.

And for those of you who know us as Open Magazine, our ethos hasn’t changed. We’re still all about bringing you a blend of the high arts and popular culture, with no judgement on whether it’s ‘ the right thing’ to like. Soaps, Reality TV and pop all rub along with performance art, classical music and literature here.

Blokely is an independent men’s lifestyle platform, only available online (known as “pure play”). Evolving from a low-key blogging site focusing on grooming and style stories, we are now a site, which, we read recently, has ‘begun to challenge the mainstays of the men’s consumer market.’ Pretty good for the new gents on the block.

Our regular contributors include Xfm’s Dave Berry, Bath and England rugby player Olly Barkley, comedian Josh Howie, ex-England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom and actress Kelly-Anne Lyons. But, we’re not stopping – there’s more in the pipeline.

At HeyUGuys, it’s simple. We love movies.

When we started out in November of 2008 we wanted to create an internet home for our love letters to cinema. Be it looking back to films we loved as kids, classic movies we’ve just caught up with or looking forward to the latest blockbusters and indie masterpieces, at HeyUGuys , if it’s thrown against the silver screen we’re interested.

Based in London, UK we want to bring you the most interesting film news and reviews, keep an active eye on the latest developments behind the scenes and celebrate the freshest new voices in cinema.

We are dedicated to providing the best coverage from the world’s biggest film festivals, be on the red carpet for all the London premieres as well as covering the many cinematic events around the world. For interviews with the biggest names in the business, exclusive competitions or comprehensive coverage from set visits in the US and the UK, we want you to join us at HeyUGuys.co.uk.

There are great things happening in the world of film right now, and we’re in a privileged position to discuss, debate, argue with you about the things you care about most. The films will never stop coming and we’ll never stop watching.

A place for mum’s to dip in and out of features focusing on travel, interiors, food, celeb and non celeb mum interviews …. we don’t touch on parenting issues (unless they are gorgeous – so no advice here I’m afraid – just shameless indulgence about all other areas of our lives!).

Aimed predominantly at men in their 20s and 30s – and, in some cases, 40s and 50s (but rarely 60s onwards) – Interestment is basically an entertainment and lifestyle website that focuses on popular culture, fashion, cookery, sport, and anything else deemed interesting on any given day.

It was set up by Josh Burt, who has been a journalist for over ten years, and has written for men’s magazines (FHM, Shortlist, Zoo Weekly), women’s magazines (Cosmopolitan, New Woman, More!), tabloids (The Sun, The Mirror), broadsheets (The Times), websites (The Sun Online, FHM Online), you name it. He’s even written a book! It has been featured in The Times, who described it as “an irrepressible canter through popular culture.

The site is also responsible for the monthly stand up comedy night Interestment Presents… Get Up Stand Up which is proving rather popular.

We think that was a recommendation.

Set up three years ago with a healthy backlog of content, we post frequently and prolifically, always engaging with the mood of the TV nation and talking straight about whatever’s been on the box.
It’s the year of the indie mag and The Other Side is leading the charge. Produced by a team of exceptional writers, illustrators and designers we have our finger firmly on the pulse of what London needs.

It’s the year of the indie mag and The Other Side is leading the charge. Produced by a team of exceptional writers, illustrators and designers we have our finger firmly on the pulse of what London needs. It’s time for change and The Other Side is exactly that.

The Magazine
This is about a community of people who want the best offbeat insight into London and want to see that reflected in what they read. People accept nothing less. We’re special. We’re unique. Our mission is to bring the best to the people. Originally printed on a photocopier in Muswell Hill, The Other Side has blossomed from an eight page black and white magazine into a full colour magazine. Created, run and put together bi-monthly by a group of Londoners working within the publishing and Web 2.0 industry, The Other Side Magazine is ready to take on the big guns.
The Other Side is made up of young Londoners frustrated with what we are handed on a daily basis. The Lite, Metro and Paper are offering nothing of any value to commuters…and don’t get us started on the new ES. We turn the norm on its head and offer up witty, insightful comment on our city. Be it music, film, art, fashion, politics or food. If its on the mind of Londoners then we’ll cover it. We’ve got an award winning travel writer, a film star, RA graduates and the backing of social networking platform Webjam.com.

Online
We don’tt believe that print is dead. Not yet anyway. Who doesn’t love sitting down and reading a tasty magazine? However we are accounting for the direction in which print is going and have created a website to match those thoughts.
The site is run on a social network platform, taking your average website and adding endless possibility to it.
Our blogs, forums and bulletins are monitored through activity feeds throughout the site for easy navigation. We have an abundance of writers who contribute on a regular basis.
There is also a thriving community of members contributing to the content.
Channels
What sets us apart from other sites is the potential for readers to create their own ‘Other Side’ network. A place where they can start writing blogs, adding photos or just communicating with other readers. Anything written on their Other Side network appears on a feed on our homepage.
We are currently setting up pages for shops, bars and festivals that they can use to promote themselves. By keeping a blog and running a forum it can set a store apart from one with a standard website. It’s key to interact with their customers and we know that we can help.

Hardens Restaurant Guides are the longest- established pocket guide to London restaurants.

Hardens Restaurant Guides are the longest- established pocket guide to London restaurants. Run by brothers Richard and Peter Harden, their mission is remarkably simple: to tell it how it is.

Harden’s Guides, run by brothers Richard and Peter Harden, is a publishing firm based just off the Strand in London.

Fifteen years ago, Richard and Peter launched their first and best-selling guide, Harden’s London Restaurants – now the longest-established pocket guide to London restaurants. In 1998 a companion volume was launched: Harden’s UK Restaurants. The opinions expressed in both guides are based on what is now the largest annual survey of restaurant-goers in the UK (over 8,000 people took part for the 2006 edition, contributing over 90,000 reports).

In addition the brothers have visited practically every restaurant listed in the London guide, and many of those listed in the UK volume. Their personal visits are always conducted anonymously, and at the firm’s expense.

Meet Richard & Peter

Richard (48) graduated from Christ’s College Cambridge with a degree in Economics and Law. An interest in food manifested itself in membership of the Cheese Appreciation Society and being Dinner Secretary of the college boat club. On leaving university, he qualified as a Barrister, before embarking on a career in the City, working initially at Baring Brothers and then at Samuel Montagu (now part of HSBC). In 1991, he founded Harden’s Guides with his brother Peter.

Peter (41) graduated with a degree in Natural Sciences and Law from Trinity College Cambridge. “Hoover” Harden’s legendary appetite was fuelled by rowing for the Goldie (the university second crew) and his position as food and drink secretary for his college ball. He too first went into finance, working as a junk bond analyst for the Saudi International Bank in New York, before returning to London to launch Harden’s Guides.

How the business began

The idea for Harden’s Guides came at the beginning of the 1990s, when Peter was working in New York and Richard in Dusseldorf. Both cities had handy, opinionated, pocket restaurant guides of a type which simply didn’t exist in London. The time seemed right to launch such a guide. The restaurant scene was just beginning to stir and, with great difficulty, a hundred people were persuaded to take part in the first London-wide survey. For nine months before publication of the first edition of Harden’s London Restaurants, Richard and Peter ate their way around the capital: between them the brothers consumed 600 meals out in a six-month period.

Fifteen years later, and the number of participants has increased eighty-fold. Yes, that’s 80 times more than Harden’s first guide with over 8,000 people casting their votes for the latest editions!
