On day five of the Rio 2016 Olympics, kayaker,  Joe Clark, and diving duo, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, brought home Olympic victory as they won the gold.

Joe Clarke, a 23-year-old from Stone in Staffordshire,  won kayak K1 gold. Inspired at a young age by rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave, he began paddling age 11 and embarked on a kayaking trip with the Scouts.

“I’m gobsmacked,” said Clarke. “I knew I was capable of such a performance, but to put it down in the Olympic final is just a dream come true.

Laugher and Mears claimed GB’s first Olympic diving title with victory in the men’s synchronised 3m springboard.

The pair scored a total of 454.32, beating their strong opponents from China.

“I still can’t really believe that it’s happened,” said Mears. “I’ve come from death’s door to here. I’m pretty proud.”
